Setting Up Social 101: Your Audience, Platforms, Content And Following Trends.

Are you looking to get your product noticed by supermarkets on social media, but you’re not quite sure where to start? Make sure you keep reading!

When you first look into digital marketing for your business, it can seem incredibly daunting.

You’ll find yourself asking questions such as ‘who exactly am I targeting?’ and ‘how do I know which platform to choose?’

To ease your headache, Buyer’s Discovery Club and The Good Food Group has teamed up with Rate Social to give you a comprehensive overview of where to start when you’re navigating the stormy seas of social media.

1. Know your audience:

The more you know about your audience, the more oomph it will put in your marketing efforts. Having a strong understanding of who you’re targeting means you can tailor your content more closely to your audience.

At a glance, this can look pretty simple, but under the surface we need to look at demographics, psychographics, market research and so much more. Then all of this work is used to create a buyer persona for your business (this is basically an in-depth profile of your ideal customer).

Here are some great resources for getting to know your audience:

2. Choosing the right platforms and content:

Now that you know who you’re targeting, it’s time to discover which platforms your audience use most frequently. Nowadays, there’s a lot to choose from; TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin and Pinterest to name a few…

So, how do you know which one to choose?

Simple, you look at your target audience. If they’re younger and ‘trendier’ then they’re more likely to hang out on Instagram and TikTok, if you’re doing more B2B (Business to Business) marketing, then Linkedin is a good choice etc…

3. Set objectives:

You now know so much about your audience, you feel as though they’re your best friends and you’re confident in your choice of platform… so, what next?

It’s not quite time to jump straight in and start posting yet; it’s time to get specific on your social media goals. Having marketing goals that are Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound (SMART goals) is key to achieving success with your business’ social media.

Having SMART goals ensures that your marketing efforts will help your business meet its overall goals. This HubSpot article is a great starting point for setting your marketing goals.

4. Create a content plan/schedule:

Planning ahead is really important when it comes to creating content, it allows you to maintain a consistent social media presence and lets you make sure your content matches your campaigns.

Whether you’re posting once every other week or every day, consistency is key.

We really recommend being super organised and having a document set up with all your social plans, campaigns, ideas and posts. You can find a template here.

5. Using the right tools and interactive features:

We believe in making life easier and working smarter, not harder. So, we’ve made a list of tools and features you should check out for your business’ social media.
